Field Trip to ICE

Today we visited the Integrated Center for Education (ICE) at Gundersen Lutheran, where people training to be doctors practice their skills! We were greeted by Dr. Hofland and his team of nurses, Lynn Gaustad, Karen Mathis, Chester Hilton, Lea Schild, and Andrea Ritter! A big thank you to everyone for taking the time to show us around Gundersen!

We rotated through six stations where we learned how to use a variety of laparoscopic tools used for minimally invasive surgery, we got the opportunity to use the bone saws and drills used during orthopedic surgery, learned a little about anesthesiology and cauterizing, and practiced intubating a medical dummy!

Even the teachers joined in on the fun!

At the end of our field trip, there was a contest to see which group had practiced and learned the skills the best. 3 students from each team were chosen and the rest of us watched the competition from the classroom upstairs on large TVs!

Thanks again to Dr. Hofland for arranging this field trip for us! It was a great experience and we had an excellent time! Thanks again!
